Our Center for Energy is looking for new Ingenious Partner for our location in Vienna. The thematic portfolio is based on three central systems: Public Energy Supply Systems, Industrial Processes and Cities & Built Environment. The main research areas at the Center focus on the enhanced integration of renewable energies, the decarbonisation of industrial processes and facilities, and innovative technologies and solutions for resilient cities and urban resilience.
Our experts in the "Hybrid Power Plants" research team work on practical projects involving renewable power generation systems and storage solutions. Their efforts are particularly focused on the development and evaluation of stationary battery storage systems for the energy transition.
Research Engineer (f/m/d) for Battery Energy Storage Systems
CENTER FOR ENERGY
- With your expertise, you actively contribute to the technical optimisation of battery storage systems by developing methods, processes, and systems for measuring, evaluating, and analyzing battery storage systems.
- You design control and regulation concepts for battery storage systems in combination with power generation and sector coupling to other markets (e.g., heat and hydrogen).
- You develop software tools and processes for model-based development of battery storage systems and hybrid power plants to accelerate the rollout of these technologies. The tools and methods you help develop are utilized in various projects and provided to clients.
- You actively contribute to our research topics by taking responsibility for various research and industry projects.
- You work with clients and project partners to develop tailored solutions for the optimal procurement of battery storage systems.
- Your innovative results and growing network with partners from industry and the energy sector actively contribute to the success of our current research projects, as well as to the establishment of new business models and concepts in the field of renewable energies and storage systems, enabling the practical implementation of application-oriented solutions.
Your qualifications as an Ingenious Partner:
- A completed technical degree (at least MSc.) in the field of electrical engineering with a focus on computer science or similar studies (e.g., automation systems, embedded systems, or technical physics).
- Excellent knowledge in the area of battery storage systems and specific subcomponents (battery technologies, power electronics, ICT, etc.), including their planning, procurement, and implementation.
- Solid knowledge of relevant programming languages (especially Python) for analyzing measurement data is an advantage.
- A good understanding of current technologies and systems in the areas of renewable energies, electrical grids, gas networks, hydrogen, and sector coupling is beneficial.
- Experience in acquiring and executing research projects in the field of battery storage is desirable. Strong interest in applied research and solving practical problems, ideally with prior project experience in this context.
- High level of commitment and teamwork skills.
- Proficiency in English and German, both written and spoken.
What to expect:
The minimum gross annual salary on a full-time basis (38,5 h / week) according to the collective agreement is EUR 57.890,--. The actual salary will be determined individually, based on your qualifications and experience.
