Our Center for Transport Technologies located in Vienna invites applications for a master’s thesis. The center encompasses several competence units that work on tomorrow’s improved transport solutions, including battery technologies, lightweight vehicles and safe and resilient infrastructures.
For this master’s thesis you will join our Competence Unit Transportation Infrastructure Technologies, which investigates and develops technology, methods and models to improve infrastructure resilience, durability and safety. Extending safe usage through optimal maintenance and finding adaptations to improve safety for all road users through experimentation and modelbuilding are our central goals. We work extensively with public and private partners in Austria and internationally to recommend and implement cutting edge technological improvements for infrastructure usage optimization. In the same vein we include considerations of environmental factors (noise, particle emissions in traffic) into our optimizations. The thesis will be supervised by partners at the Institute for Analysis and Scientific Computing at TU Vienna.
Master Thesis “Characterizing features of Driving Dynamics on a Motorcycle Probe Vehicle”
CENTER FOR TRANSPORT TECHNOLOGIES
- For this master’s thesis you will investigate extensive time series of driving dynamics obtained from multiple motorcycle rides by multiple riders on given tracks.
- You will support us in working out characteristic features in driving dynamics that differentiate the different riders.
- You will investigate the possibility of using simulation software (like IPG Motorcycle maker) to use the obtained data for setting up simulations of motorcycle movements.
- Under the guidance of our researchers, you will implement model building approaches to extract characterizing features from motorcyclist data.
- With the support of our team, you will investigate the feasibility of simulating driver movements based on the characterizing features extracted before.
- You will explore different model-building approaches and criteria for selecting the most appropriate one with the guidance of our researchers.
Your qualifications as an Ingenious Partner:
- Ongoing master's studies in the field of Technical Mathematics at TU Vienna
- Good knowledge in R, Python, or MATLAB, willingness to adopt multiple of these languages as needed
- Enjoyment of application-oriented questions of industry
- High level of commitment and team spirit
- Very good English or German skills (spoken and written) - The thesis can be completed in either language
What to expect:
- Duration of the master’s thesis project: 6 months
- Start date: as soon as possible, with some flexibility depending on your availability
- EUR 1273 gross per month for 20 hours/week based on the collective agreement.
