Our Center for Digital Safety and Security is looking for new Ingenious Partners for our location in Vienna (Giefinggasse, 1210). In the Reliable Wireless Communication and Sensing research team, we develop advanced physical layer 6G technologies. As a member of a growing team, you will perform applied research with European scientific and industrial partners and be involved in the successful execution of multiple European research projects.

Applied Research Engineer (f/m/d) for 6G Wireless Communication (ISAC)

CENTER FOR DIGITAL SAFETY & SECURITY

  • You will contribute to the development of numerical signal processing algorithms for mobile 5G/6G Integrated Sensing & Communication (ISAC) scenarios.
  • You will work on projects combining numerical simulations and empirical measurements using a software-defined radio (SDR) testbed, with applications across radio frequency (RF), fiber-optic, and quantum sensing technologies.
  • You will be involved in the integration, testing, and validation of algorithms and state-of-the-art software for wireless communication systems.
  • You will be part of an international research team involved in European projects, contributing to engineering, technology development and prototyping in a field with an enormous range of applications, from construction, logistics, aviation and railways to agriculture, robotics and defence.

Your qualifications as an Ingenious Partner:

  • Completed technical studies (Master’s degree or PhD) related to Telecommunications, Computer Science or Electrical Engineering
  • AI/ML and numerical simulation software development (MATLAB or Python) and real-time FPGA programming.
  • High level of commitment and ability to work in a team
  • Good language skills in English (spoken & written). German language skills are an advantage.
  • Experience in at least one of the following profiles:
    • (1) Multi-static MIMO UAV sensing
    • (2) Quantum sensing with NV centers and Rydberg cells
    • (3) Multimodal sensing using fiber optic networks in ground/seafloor and distributed RF sensors
    • (4) Distributed localisation in wireless networks
    • (5) Positioning and sensing in 5G/6G networks

What to expect: 

  • The minimum gross annual salary on a full-time basis (38,5 h / week) according to the collective agreement is EUR 56.784,--. The actual salary will be determined individually, based on your level of education and experience.
