The Competence Unit Digital Resilient Cities at the Center for Energy supports cities and their stakeholders in the cross-sector transformation process, combining expertise in the areas of climate, energy, mobility, circularity, and urban planning. With the aim of creating climate-neutral, competitive, and sustainable living spaces, we develop and integrate state-of-the-art evidence-based analysis and simulation tools for systemic urban transformation, as well as for the concrete planning and management of neighborhood and building solutions.

FFG internship for female students in the field of “Digital Resilient Cities”

CENTER FOR ENERGY

  • You will support us in the development and implementation of national and international projects and gain exciting insights into our technological environment.
  • With the City Intelligence Lab, we have created an innovative digital urban planning laboratory where, depending on your profile, you could also be considered for the implementation of planning projects in the further development of the technical framework and its modules.
  • You will be familiarized with the working environment and evidence-based working methods in the field of applied research.

Your qualifications as an Ingenious Partner:

  • You are currently studying a relevant subject such as climate modeling, meteorology, spatial planning, architecture, traffic planning, software development, computer science & data science, building science, urban energy systems, geoinformatics, smart cities, circular economy, water management, etc.
  • You are at least in your fourth semester and enrolled at an Austrian university.
  • Solid basic knowledge of digital tools and methods for the transformation process in an urban context (e.g., Rhinoceros, Grasshopper, Revit, ArchiCAD, ArcGIS, MATSim, Energyplus, MAED/MESSAGE, R, application of climate models such as WRF, COSMO, ICON, BIM) is an advantage
  • Good programming skills in Python or other programming languages are an advantage
  • Good written and spoken English skills

 

What to expect:

  • Duration of the internship: Preferably 6 months (minimum 4 months)

  • Start date: Possible from around April/May 2026 (depending on the start of the FFG's “Internship for Female Students 2026”* program – there is some flexibility regarding the start date).

  • Remuneration of EUR 1,415 gross per month for 38.5 hours per week. In addition to our company benefits, we offer flexible working conditions and the opportunity to gain professional experience in a highly innovative environment.
     

     


 

  • AIT participates in the “Internship for Female Students” program of the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG). The Federal Ministry for Innovation, Mobility, and Infrastructure promotes internships for female students as part of the FFG initiative “Young Talent and Qualification.” The aim is to attract young female scientists to careers in applied research in the scientific-technical RTI sector (research, technology, and innovation) and to increase the proportion of female researchers and technicians in companies.
