The Competence Unit Digital Resilient Cities located in Vienna invites applications for an internship. The Competence Unit Digital Resilient Cities within the Center for Energy supports cities and their stakeholders in cross-sectoral transformation processes, combining expertise particularly in the areas of climate, energy, mobility, and urban planning. With the goal of creating climate-neutral, competitive, and sustainable living spaces, we develop and integrate cutting-edge evidence-based analysis and simulation tools for systemic urban transformation, as well as for the concrete planning and management of district and building solutions.
Internship in the field of "Digital Resilient Cities"
CENTER FOR ENERGY
- You work with our multidisciplinary team on innovative and smart solutions for the development of sustainable and livable cities of the future.
- You become familiar with the latest digital analysis and planning tools in the fields of climate-resilient urban development, transformation of energy and mobility systems, circular economy, and digital processes in building and district development.
- Based on your field of study and expertise, you will actively contribute to our ongoing projects in one of the research areas: Urban Development and Mobility Transformation, Climate-Resilient Pathways, or Decarbonisation and Circularity in Built Environments.
- You support us in the development and implementation of national and international projects and gain exciting insights into our technological environment.
- With the City Intelligence Lab (https://cities.ait.ac.at/site/), we have created an innovative digital urban planning lab, where, depending on your profile, you may also contribute to the implementation of planning projects or the further development of the technical framework and its modules.
- You will experience the working environment and evidence-based approach in the field of applied research and have the opportunity to exchange ideas with our researchers about the latest technological developments.
Your qualifications as an Ingenious Partner:
- Ongoing studies with relevant focus areas such as climate modeling, meteorology, architecture, transportation planning, software development / software engineering, computer science & data science, building science, urban energy systems, geoinformatics, urban and spatial planning, smart cities, circular economy, water management, etc.
- You are in your 4th semester or higher and enrolled at an Austrian university.
- Solid foundational knowledge of digital tools and methods for urban transformation processes (e.g., Rhinoceros, Grasshopper, Revit, ArchiCAD, ArcGIS, MATSim, EnergyPlus, MAED/MESSAGE, R, application of climate models like WRF, COSMO, ICON) is advantageous.
- Strong programming skills in Python or other programming languages are a plus.
- Good knowledge of web technologies and databases with a focus on building science is an advantage.
- Proficient English skills, both written and spoken.
What to expect:
- Duration of the internship: Preferably 6 months (minimum of 4 months).
- Start date: Possible from around March 2025. There is some flexibility regarding the start date.
- EUR 1,366 gross per month for 38.5 hours per week. Additionally, we offer flexible working conditions, company benefits, and the opportunity to gain professional experience in a highly innovative environment.
