AI:AT is a joint project of AIT and Advanced Computing Austria. It brings together top-level expertise in high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, and data ecosystems, creating an interdisciplinary innovation environment for research, development, start-ups, and industrial projects.
AI:AT – the AI Factory Austria – provides access to cutting-edge AI infrastructure, promotes trustworthy AI and ethical standards, and serves as a hub for networking with national and European partners. The goal is to work with partners from industry and public institutions to develop and implement forward-looking AI technologies and viable AI solutions.
As part of the collaboration within the AI Factory Austria, ÖAW – Austrian Academy of Scienceswill delegate experts to the AI Factory Austria. For our location in Vienna, we are seeking a:
Project Lead (f/m/d) AI Innovation
AI:AT - AI Factory Austria
- The focus lies on leading the ÖAW Team within the AI Factory Austria
- Design and facilitate innovation sprints using frameworks like Design Thinking and agile methodologies.
- Guide cross-functional teams in ideating, prototyping, and validating AI-driven solutions.
- Evaluate feasibility and strategic alignment of AI prototypes and support next steps.
- Ensure compliance with AI ethics and regulatory principles throughout the sprint process.
- Capture results and derive insights to inform future development and scaling efforts.
- Establishing and maintaining networks in the field of artificial intelligence with academic institutions in Austria and internationally.
- Supporting researchers and innovators from the AI Factory Austria and partner institutions in exchanging the latest scientific methods and findings in fields such as biotechnology, manufacturing, public administration, and physics to accelerate innovation.
- Assisting business partners in effectively utilising new scientific results through targeted technology transfer activities.
Your qualifications:
- Deep understanding of AI technologies (ML, NLP, CV, etc.) and their application potential.
- Experience in leading agile innovation processes and cross-sectoral co-creation.
- Strong communication skills to bridge technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to motivate teams and maintain focus under tight innovation timelines.
- Awareness of AI ethics and human-centered design principles.
- Completed university degree (e.g., computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, or natural sciences)
- Five or more years of professional experience (e.g., in industry, business, or academia), including at least two years of project management experience
- High level of teamwork skills
- Excellent communication skills in German and English
- You should be eligible for working in Austria

- For this full-time position (40 h / week), we offer a gross annual salary of (minimum) € 63,142,10 according to the collective agreement of the Austrian Academy of Science. In addition, we offer a market-compliant overpayment depending on qualifications and experience.
- We are looking to fill this position at the earliest opportunity.
- The position will be awarded for a limited period of time for the current duration of the AI Factory Austria (until June 2028). An extension beyond this period may be possible depending on future project developments.
