
AI:AT – the AI Factory Austria – is making Austria a hotspot for Artificial Intelligence in Europe.
AI:AT is a joint project of AIT and Advanced Computing Austria. It brings together top-level expertise in high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, and data ecosystems, creating an interdisciplinary innovation environment for research, development, start-ups, and industrial projects.
AI:AT – the AI Factory Austria – provides access to cutting-edge AI infrastructure, promotes trustworthy AI and ethical standards, and serves as a hub for networking with national and European partners. The goal is to work with partners from industry and public institutions to develop and implement forward-looking AI technologies and viable AI solutions.
As part of the collaboration within the AI Factory Austria, the Austrian Institute of Technology will delegate experts to the AI Factory Austria. For our location in Vienna (Karl-Farkas Gasse, 1030), we are seeking a:
AI Solutions Lead (f/m/d) – Public Sector
AI:AT AI FACTORY AUSTRIA
- You work closely with public-sector organisations to identify high-value AI use cases and translate administrative, organisational, and service-related challenges into feasible technical solutions.
- You advise and mentor interdisciplinary teams in designing and delivering AI solutions for the public sector, providing guidance on solution architectures, AI and data pipelines, and engineering best practices. Where appropriate, you also contribute to proof-of-concepts and early-stage MVPs.
- You continuously develop and improve our AI and data service portfolio based on current and emerging needs across public-sector organisations.
- You guide customer teams in deploying and operating AI and machine-learning solutions while considering existing IT environments, organisational processes, interoperability requirements, data protection, security, and applicable legal and regulatory frameworks.
- You contribute to the development and delivery of AI training formats, including workshops, technical tutorials, and knowledge-sharing sessions, helping public-sector organisations build internal AI capabilities.
- You ensure that trustworthy AI principles are considered throughout the solution lifecycle.
- You support the sustainable use and transfer of project results, for example through reusable solutions, technology transfer, licensing, or the transition of prototypes into operational public services.
- Where appropriate, you represent AI Factory Austria at workshops, innovation programmes, public-sector events, and ecosystem activities, contributing to the visibility and impact of applied AI initiatives.
Your qualifications:
- A completed master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Information Systems, Public Administration, Public Policy, Engineering, or a related field
- Several years of experience in designing, advising on, or delivering AI and machine-learning solutions in the public sector or other regulated environments
- A strong understanding of public-sector organisations, processes, and service delivery, including the practical requirements for introducing AI into administrative and operational workflows
- Demonstrated knowledge of best practices for public-sector AI solutions, including data quality, interoperability, system integration, transparency, robustness, scalability, maintainability, and operation under legal and regulatory constraints
- The ability to communicate effectively with customers, understand their organisational and regulatory context, and translate between administrative, policy, legal, and technical perspectives
- Good knowledge of data engineering, scalable data infrastructures, and the integration of heterogeneous data sources, including documents, registers, case-management systems, and administrative databases
- Strong analytical and practical problem-solving skills
- A collaborative mindset and the ability to communicate effectively with technical experts, administrative staff, decision-makers, legal experts, and external partners
- Excellent German and good English communication skills

- The gross annual salary starts at EUR 68.152,-- as a minimum according to the non-university collective agreement. The actual total salary package is determined individually according to your qualifications and experience.

- The position is funded by the AI Factory Austria until June 2028. An extension beyond this period may be possible depending on future project developments.
