AI:AT – the AI Factory Austria – is making Austria a hotspot for Artificial Intelligence in Europe.

 

AI:AT is a joint project of AIT and Advanced Computing Austria. It brings together top-level expertise in high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, and data ecosystems, creating an interdisciplinary innovation environment for research, development, start-ups, and industrial projects.

AI:AT – the AI Factory Austria – provides access to cutting-edge AI infrastructure, promotes trustworthy AI and ethical standards, and serves as a hub for networking with national and European partners. The goal is to work with partners from industry and public institutions to develop and implement forward-looking AI technologies and viable AI solutions.

 

As part of the collaboration within the AI Factory Austria, the Austrian Institute of Technology will delegate experts to the AI Factory Austria. For our location in Vienna (Karl-Farkas Gasse, 1030) we are seeking a:

AI Innovation & Solution Engineer (f/m/d)

AI:AT AI FACTORY AUSTRIA

  • You design and deliver applied AI solutions - from understanding client needs and defining project scope to developing prototypes, proof-of-concepts and early MVPs in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams across different industry and startup contexts.
  • You actively contribute to innovation sprints and venture-building activities, working with startups, researchers, and domain experts to identify AI-driven opportunities and translate them into technically feasible concepts.
  • You ideate, prototype and validate AI solutions using agile and user-centered innovation approaches such as design thinking and iterative experimentation.
  • You develop end-to-end development of AI applications, and technical pipelines, applying your expertise in applied machine learning, data pipelines, model development, and engineering best practices.
  • You mentor and advise teams on the design, development, and optimisation of AI pipelines with a focus on applied machine learning, ensuring alignment with responsible AI practices and robust engineering practices.
  • You design and operate AI workflows including model training, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), distributed training within scalable AI infrastructure across HPC and cloud environments and develop hands-on reference workflows (LLM fine-tuning, RAG pipelines, AI agents, MLOps templates) to support partner projects end-to-end.
  • You support the development and delivery of AI training formats such as workshops, technical tutorials, and knowledge-sharing sessions, helping to transfer expertise to startups, industry partners, and the internal ecosystem.
  • You ensure trustworthy AI practices by integrating considerations such as fairness, privacy, security, and regulatory compliance into the development process.
  • You collaborate with internal teams and external partners to capture insights from projects, document technical learnings, and contribute to the continuous improvement of AI services and innovation methodologies.
  • When appropriate, you support the representation of AI Factory Austria in workshops, innovation programs, and ecosystem activities, contributing to the visibility and impact of applied AI initiatives.

Your qualifications:

  • Completed degree (Master’s/PhD) in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field
  • Several years of experience in developing and operationalising ML/DL solutions (PyTorch, TensorFlow) on GPU/HPC systems
  • Proven Large Language Models (LLMs) and Generative AI, including retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), AI agents, prompt engineering, as well as domain-specific fine-tuning
  • Practical experience in MLOps: Docker/Kubernetes, GitOps, MLflow/Kubeflow, observability stacks (Prometheus/Grafana, ELK)
  • Experience with HPC schedulers (e.g., SLURM) and hybrid cloud architectures
  • Familiarity with Responsible-AI-Frameworks and EU-AI-Regulations
  • Strong expertise in at least one of the following areas: NLP, Computer Vision, time-series Analytics, Computational Audio Intelligence
  • Experience with prototyping, proof-of-concepts, or MVP development in an applied context
  • Good practices with agile and user-centered approaches
  • Experience working in collaborative, interdisciplinary environments and with external partners or stakeholders
  • Excellent language skills in German and English
  • You should be eligible for working in Austria

  • The gross annual salary starts at EUR 68.152,-- as a minimum according to the non-university collective agreement. The actual total salary package is determined individually according to your qualifications and experience.
  • The position is funded by the AI Factory Austria until June 2028. An extension beyond this period may be possible depending on future project developments.
